My Bestman Speech

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, it is my honour to be able to stand up here to say a few words about the couple.

First, S. S is an agile sportsman. He is able to pick up any sport and play it well. He was the handball captain for RH in NUS. People I meet from RH light up their eyes at the mention of S’s name. From what they tell me, he has the popularity of David Beckham and the scoring capabilities of Michael Jordan. S was also a national sailor. As a national sailor, he has been featured on our local newspapers, even on the front page. I should also add that the front page news featuring S the sailor, had nothing to do with his sailing achievements.

S is very sociable and has forged close friendships with many people over the years. I’m sure his friends here tonight will agree with me that S is also a loyal, dependable and trustworthy friend. However, S is not very good at being organized. He often leaves things to the last minute and depends on his friends to help him, even for his online engineering test.

Today, I am very happy. I am happy that S has found P. Without her meticulous planning and organization, today’s event would not have been as smooth and enjoyable for all.

P is good-natured, kind-hearted, patient, sincere, and has a great sense of humour. Even though she has not hit the local headlines, she complements S with her love for outdoor and adventure. P is a girl who would probably fit your typical idea of a tomboy – always hiking, mountain climbing or camping. Yet, she exudes the elegance of a princess, the independence of a career woman, and the capabilities of a homemaker. It is no wonder S and P make such a wonderful lovely couple.

We have all heard many sayings about marriages. Some say, marriage is the end of love. Others say, marriage is all about give and take – the husband gives while the wife takes. I would like to share a quote taken from Tom Mullen, an author. “Happy marriages begin when we marry the ones we love, and they blossom when we love the ones we marry.”

S, P, on behalf of your brothers, sisters and everyone here, I wish you both a very wonderful and blissful marriage, and everlasting happiness.

Thank you.
